Notes/My Takeaways

- That Flames lineup in Calgary is stacked. Giordano, Monahan, Gaudreau, Hudler, Hamilton, Brodie, Frolik, Bennett… wow. If you’re a Flames fan, you’ve gotta tune in for at least this game just for star quality alone.

- On the flip side, the Flames’ lineup in Edmonton is atrocious. David Jones should not be on anyone’s first line, regardless of how awesome he is.

- Connor McDavid playing at Rexall ensures that the Oilers will sell out that game.

- Eetu who?

- Tonight, we get to witness a few new jersey numbers in Calgary’s lineup. New additions aside, the following players have made a switch for the Flames: Emile Poirier (28, from 57); Sam Bennett (93, from 63); and Brandon Bollig (25, from 52).

- The average height of Calgary’s fourth line playing at the Saddledome is 6’4”. That’s rather large.

- Teddy Purcell is playing on Connor McDavid’s wing at Rexall. Is new coach Todd McLellan trying to spark a struggling-of-late Purcell? I mean, he was able to score 65 points playing on Steven Stamkos’ wing in Tampa Bay in 2012, but he only managed 32 last year… maybe McDavid can help him in the same way as Stamkos did.

- Dougie Hamilton makes his Flames debut in Calgary, playing alongside Tyler Wotherspoon on the second pairing, while other new addition Michael Frolik will also begin his Flames career on the second-best line, playing alongside two very skilled players in Sam Bennett and Mason Raymond.

- Finally, your two Flames players to watch in today’s games are:

Raymond has a lot to prove in this game. Following a disappointing 2014-15 season, he’ll want to come out prepared in 2015-16, and he’s being given a big opportunity on a good line today.
He won’t want to mess it up.

Jones will likely be traded at the deadline this year, but until then, he’ll play his heart out as a Flame. He’s one of Calgary’s most effective players when he’s going, and he’s on the first line tonight in Edmonton, so he won’t want to mess it up.
